This month marks the tenth anniversary of the Norwegian Breakaway.
In April 2013, Norwegian Cruise Line delivered the company’s first ship in the Breakaway Class.
The Breakaway was initially intended for year-round cruising out of New York City and built at Germany’s Meyer Werft shipyard.
A short time after joining the cruise line’s fleet, it sailed to Southampton, offering seven-night transatlantic crossings to New York. An official christening ceremony was held at Manhattan Cruise Terminal on May 8 as the 144,000-ton vessel arrived.
Rockettes star The Rockettes served as official godmothers for the event, hosted by Buddy Valastro of Cake Boss fame.
With the start of its winter program this year, the Norwegian Breakaway will offer longer Caribbean cruises after 22 seven-day cruises were provided in its maiden season.
During the summer of 2018, the 4,000-guest ship repositioned to Europe for a Baltic cruise program, sailing from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
With itineraries departing from Civitavecchia – the port of Italy’s capital, Rome – the Breakaway will spend the summer cruising in the Mediterranean.
After repositioning to New Orleans, the vessel offers seven-night Western Caribbean cruises during winter.
678 Ocean Place is one of the most distinctive features of Norwegian Breakaway, as it is the first ship of its kind.
A wide range of dining options, bars, lounges, a casino, retail outlets, and more are available on Decks 6, 7, and 8.
In addition to the Waterfront, the Breakaway also introduced a spacious open-deck promenade on Deck 8. This area features five outdoor dining venues and seats on the deck for bars and entertainment venues. It is called a “quarter mile boardwalk” on both sides of the ship.
