In a statement, CSSC-Carnival Cruises stated that it is currently working on updating its deployment plan for its service out of China and will announce it soon.
Recently, a cruise appeared on the company’s website with bookable advertising dates for June on the Costa Atlantica (and was published as news here, which has since been updated.)
According to the joint venture company website, Costa Atlantica was the first ship to welcome guests according to the deployment.
According to the cruise itinerary, the vessel sails four- and five-night cruises from Shanghai. There were short cruises to various destinations in Japan, including Okinawa, Kagoshima, Miyako, and the Yaeyama Islands.
A Costa Atlantica repositioning to Southern China and additional four- and five-night cruises to Japanese ports were announced in September.
In early 2022, Costa Atlantica was acquired from Costa Cruises and laid up in various parts of the Mediterranean.
Drydocking was completed in March on the 2000-built cruise ship.
Costa Cruises will continue to use the ship’s original name and colors under the Costa branding, according to CSSC Carnival’s website.
The company said that as a cruise ship designed to mimic Carnival’s Spirit class of boats, the Atlantica offers a European experience.
In addition to Italian style, the 86,000-ton ship has public areas similar to those in classic movies like La Dolce Vita, CSSC Carnival said.
As well as a Venice Carnival party, you can enjoy other themed games, classes, and contests onboard, all inspired by Italy.
CSSC Carnival is the result of a joint venture between Carnival Corporation and China State Shipbuilding Company.
Costa Atlantica is not the company’s only acquisition. It also acquired Costa Mediterranea, and two large cruise ships are under construction in China.
Five thousand guests will be accommodated on board each ship, scheduled to debut in 2023 and 2025.
In the long term, the brand aims to create a memorable cruise experience for Chinese tourists by combining an international perspective with local tastes.
