Approximately $53 million will be invested in the expansion of Galveston Wharves’ Cruise Terminal 25 in preparation for the debut of Carnival Jubilee in December.
Rodger Rees, a port director and CEO at Galveston Wharves, said, “We are delighted to welcome Carnival Jubilee to our newly improved cruise terminal.” “We are excited that Carnival Cruise Line has chosen Galveston as the home port for its newest ship.”
Two elevators and an escalator will be installed as part of the renovation of the terminal, as well as modifications to the gangways, a ramp, and a new roof.
While the project is underway, cruise operations will continue, Rees said.
The port will also undergo mandatory improvements to areas used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. According to Reese, they are expected to boost job creation and support a robust regional economy.
An agreement with Carnival and cash reserves will fund the project.
Carnival was the first major cruise company to homeport in Galveston more than 20 years ago. He added that they shared our vision then and remain committed to Galveston’s continued growth as a leading cruise destination today,” he said.
