TikTok users in Ireland claim 80% have either chosen or would choose their next holiday destination based on TikTok. In a recent viral TikTok filter, users were asked to choose an unknown destination for their next holiday, a sign of a new trend called ‘spontaneous travel.’ Cruises are a good choice for travelers on a last-minute budget (51%) according to more than half of Irish respondents.
It was revealed in a recent survey by Royal Caribbean International that Irish travelers are becoming more spontaneous when it comes to their travel plans, including booking last-minute holidays and allowing fate to dictate their destination. 80% of those in Ireland who use TikTok have let the platform choose their next holiday destination or intend to do so.
Currently, a popular TikTok filter selects users’ travel locations for them, removing all control from them. Among those who felt impulsive about last-minute vacations, 51% said cruising was a good option, while 23% said they wanted to visit multiple locations.
A recent study found that 50% of Irish citizens are interested in traveling with their partner, 31% prefer short-haul vacations, and 41% take their kids on spontaneous vacations.
In this study, it was shown that impulsive travel interests cross age groups, beyond Gen Z. Study results indicate that 21% of people between the ages of 35 and 44 and 30% of those between the ages of 25 and 34 are willing to let the algorithm determine their location randomly.
According to the survey, 16 percent of respondents expect to plan their vacation in less than a week.
