Onboard Mardi Gras, Carnival Cruise Line crew members responded to a call from the U.S. Coast Guard in response to a request to rescue a couple from a sailboat early Monday morning.
As the Coast Guard’s call was received by the ship’s officers, the couple was stranded about 20 nautical miles from Castle Island, Bahamas, and less than nine miles from Mardi Gras.
Mardi Gras’ lifeboat was lowered to the sailboat as the ship’s crew neared it early Monday morning.
His care is being provided by the medical team on board once he was admitted to the onboard medical center.
