Silversea Takes Delivery of Silver Ray

By Cruise Booking Team

Silversea has taken delivery of Silver Ray, the second ship in its Nova Class.
At the official handover ceremony in Eemshaven on May 14, the event was celebrated by Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean Group’s president and CEO; Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea; Bernard Meyer, Chairman of the Meyer Group; and Bernd Eikens, CEO of the Meyer Group, along with executives from the Meyer Werft shipyard and Royal Caribbean Group, and Captain Alessandro Zanello.
It was announced that Silver Ray is scheduled to embark on her maiden voyage from Lisbon on June 15, and will spend her inaugural season in the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic to the Americas in December 2024.
Jason Liberty expressed his excitement about taking delivery of Silver Ray, describing it as the newest ultra-luxury and expedition jewel in Royal Caribbean Group’s fleet. He emphasized that delivering the best vacation experiences responsibly is central to their efforts. He acknowledged, “We are fortunate to have the best people working together to dream and create unforgettable experiences for our guests, including the Meyer Werft shipyard team, whose partnership has enabled us to continue pushing boundaries.’’
Bert Hernandez described Silver Ray as embodying Royal Caribbean Group’s vision for the future of innovative ultra-luxury and expedition cruise travel. He highlighted that, as the second ship in their cutting-edge Nova Class, Silver Ray is not only one of the most energy-efficient ships ever built but also features a design that enhances guest access to the destinations visited. He expressed honor in welcoming Silver Ray to the fleet during his first delivery as president of Silversea, and remarked enthusiastically, “I can’t wait for our guests to experience everything this remarkable ship has to offer.”
Bernd Eikens remarked that delivering Silver Ray ahead of schedule marked an important milestone for the Meyer Group. He also credited the Meyer Werft team and their partners for their hard work in bringing the ship to life, culminating in another great delivery to Silversea.
The conveyance of Silver Ray, which took place at the end of April, involved a journey of approximately 40km down the River Ems from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, followed by the completion of her technical and nautical sea trials in the North Sea on May 8, overseen by Captain Alessandro Zanello, the shipyard’s captain, and expert local pilots.
