According to a press release, Carnival Corporation has completed the fleetwide implementation of LR OneOcean’s EnviroManager+ software, thereby establishing a new standard in sailing and environmental planning. The software system, EnviroManager+, was co-developed by Carnival Corporation and LR OneOcean to provide shipboard crews with automated tools that aid in passage and environmental planning.
The development of EnviroManager+ has been a collaborative effort over five years, involving senior maritime officials, shipboard crew members, environmental experts from the company and industry, regulatory compliance leaders, and technology innovators. The system identifies precise boundaries of over 500 environmentally regulated zones globally and integrates these with numerous industry and Carnival Corporation-specific environmental policies, offering a comprehensive overview of all environmental regulations applicable, irrespective of the governing body or jurisdiction.
Updates to policies and regulations are routinely and automatically disseminated across the fleet through a shore-to-ship data service within the LR OneOcean digital platform.
John Haeflinger, senior vice president of sustainability and maritime policy at Carnival Corporation, expressed that compliance with environmental regulations is critically important and challenging due to the constant evolution and increasing complexity of regulations. He highlighted the proactive role of the company in marine stewardship and emphasized the assurance provided by the LR OneOcean EnviroManager+ that their operations meet all environmental standards, including those more stringent than required. Haeflinger invited other oceangoing ship operators who are committed to environmental compliance to consider the software, suggesting that collaborative use could enhance the software’s capabilities for everyone’s benefit.
Martin Penney, CEO of LR OneOcean, shared his delight: “We are delighted to have partnered with Carnival Corporation in the successful adoption of EnviroManager+ across its fleet and support their journey to efficient environmental compliance management. Navigating the complex, rapidly changing regulatory landscape is a growing challenge in shipping. Operators, like Carnival Corporation, often cruise in areas of ecological significance and know how important staying environmentally compliant is to their guests. We applaud Carnival Corporation’s commitment to its ship- and shore-based team members, providing them with software to ensure environmental compliance in their passage planning and execution.”
