Carnival Corporation has unveiled plans for a significant $100 million expansion of the pier at Celebration Key, aimed at doubling the destination’s capacity for arrivals. This exclusive location on Grand Bahama Island is set to welcome visitors by the summer of 2025, as stated in a recent press release.
The project will not only complete the initially planned two berths by 2025 but will also introduce an additional two berths, designed to accommodate Carnival’s largest Excel Class ships by 2026, according to the company.
Once the expansion is complete, the cruise pier can host up to four Excel Class ships at the same time, with an expectation to attract around 4 million visitors annually to Celebration Key by 2028.
The announcement of the pier extension project was made on Thursday, Feb. 22, during the 25th Annual Grand Bahama Business Outlook by I. Chester Cooper, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation in The Bahamas.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, expressed the grand vision for Celebration Key and Grand Bahama Island, highlighting the significance of the expansion for future growth and development plans. Duffy emphasized the importance of building the second pier, “Building the second pier now allows us to implement growth plans and build itineraries with certainty, and signals to the local community just how important this development is to Carnival Cruise Line and the future of the island.”
Deputy Prime Minister Cooper hailed the announcement as a landmark event for Grand Bahama, “Carnival Corporation’s dedication to our island’s growth is both commendable and inspiring – we applaud their expanded investment in Celebration Key in Grand Bahama and welcome the imminent exponential boost to the Grand Bahama economy.”
The Honourable Ginger Moxey M.P., Minister for Grand Bahama, praised Carnival Corporation for their increased investment and the promising economic boost for Grand Bahama. She highlighted the expansion as the dawn of a new and exciting chapter for the island, opening up unparalleled opportunities for residents and promising widespread prosperity through various spin-off benefits.
