An official statement said that Carnival Spirit crew members rescued 24 people from a boat stranded in the Caribbean Sea on Tuesday.
During a sailing trip near Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, the Carnival Spirit noticed the group in distress while sailing toward Aruba.
All 24 people were rescued by the crew.
Ship’s medical personnel checked the group and found it to be in good health. Officers on the ship reached out to Coast Guard officials in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic to coordinate a transfer. Near La Romana, Dominican Republic, a Coast Guard cutter completed the transfer and Carnival Spirit began its journey again.
There are no scheduled stops on Tuesday and the Carnival Spirit will visit Aruba as scheduled on Wednesday.
Leaving Port Miami on April 8, the ship will return on April 15 after a week-long cruise.
