The Carnival Luminosa arrived in Brisbane on Sunday, November 10, to begin its third summer season at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, according to a press statement. At the same time, Carnival confirmed that it will sail year-round from Brisbane.
Between November 2024 and April 2025, the Luminosa will embark on 24 trips from Brisbane to Far North Queensland, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, and Papua New Guinea, carrying nearly 70,000 people.
The line’s presence in Queensland will grow in March 2025, when P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Encounter officially becomes the Carnival Encounter, making Brisbane the homeport for two Carnival ships. This expanded capacity is expected to create approximately $800 million for Queensland’s economy in the coming year, more than doubling the impact from 2023-24.
“The choice to keep Carnival Encounter headquartered in Brisbane year-round demonstrates how much Queenslanders enjoy cruising from their capital city. Carnival Cruise Line Vice President Kara Glamore stated, “As we expand our fleet, our commitment to the Sunshine State has never been stronger.”
Carnival and P&O Cruises Australia will expand their Queensland itineraries in 2025, with 50 excursions to Moreton Island, 52 to Airlie Beach, and 28 to Cairns. Guests can buy itineraries for the Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Encounter until 2026-27. Carnival’s Australian fleet will increase to four ships in March 2025, when P&O’s Pacific Adventure is rebranded as Carnival Adventure. The new ships will join the Carnival Luminosa, Carnival Splendor, and Carnival Encounter and run year-round from Sydney.
