According to Celebrity Cruises, Captain Sandy Yawn, one of the stars of Bravo television’s Below Deck, as well as Michelle Dunham, the founder of the Jacksonville School for Autism (JSA), have been selected as co-godmothers of the new cruise vessel Celebrity Ascent.
The company added that both sisters will be present for the official naming ceremony scheduled for December 1, 2023.
The addition of Captain Sandy and her sister Michelle to Celebrity Cruises‘ godmothers lineup is an honor, since they are both inspiring women who have dedicated their lives to making a difference in the world.
Captain Sandy is a pioneer in the maritime industry and an inspiration to young women because of her resilience, leadership, and strength. In the world of autism advocacy, Michelle shows us what is possible when you follow your vision for a better world. Celebrity’s values are instilled in both women, so we have no doubt they are the right candidates for Ascent.
Upon the debut of the new vessel later this year, the sisters will join the industry’s first brother Captains, Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzis.
Other Edge-Class ships have also been named after godmothers, including Simone Biles, 19-time World Champion and seven-time Olympic Medalist, who christened the Celebrity Beyond in 2022; Reshma Saujani, the founder and CEO of Girls Who Code, named Celebrity Apex in 2021; and Malala Yousafzai, a Nobel laureate and activist, named Celebrity Edge in 2018.
