This month, the MSC Lirica embarked on a new series of cruises from its latest homeport in Brazil, marking a significant addition to MSC Cruises’ extensive six-ship deployment in South America. The vessel, accommodating 2,000 guests, kicks off its journey from Paranaguá, offering a captivating seven-night itinerary that includes stops in Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil.
The MSC Lirica’s regular route features notable destinations such as Punta del Este, Itajaí, and Buenos Aires, alongside two comprehensive days at sea. This change introduces Paranaguá as a unique starting point for these cruises, though passengers have the flexibility to embark from nearly all the ports visited on this journey.
Márcia Leite, MSC’s Brazil Operations Director, highlights the strategic inclusion of Paranaguá in their itineraries, citing the port’s appeal to travelers, especially those residing in the southern Brazilian states like Paraná and Santa Catarina. Leite expresses confidence in the long-term success of this partnership and the potential to explore new destinations in Paraná.
The 2023-24 season, lasting until late March, will see 17 cruises departing from Paranaguá. The MSC Lirica’s return in the 2024-25 season is already on the cards, with the MSC Armonia slated to offer additional week-long cruises from this new homeport.
Originally launched in 2003 and constructed at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France, the MSC Lirica underwent a significant refurbishment in 2015 as part of MSC’s €275-million Renaissance Program. This renovation enhanced the ship with a new 24-meter section, adding 194 cabins, a children’s water park, and various upgrades.
Alongside the MSC Lirica, the MSC Cruises’ 2023-24 South American program features the MSC Grandiosa, MSC Seaview, MSC Preziosa, MSC Musica, and MSC Armonia, showcasing a robust presence in the region’s cruise market.
