Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced a partnership with sustainable serveware provider Drinique to enhance its in-room breakfast service using eco-friendly bento box-style serveware, according to a press release.
The new serveware, made from 50 percent certified recycled materials and Eastman Tritan Renew, is described by the company as a durable alternative to traditional porcelain plates, aimed at reducing the use of plastic cling wrap and supporting sustainability efforts.
Mark Kansley, senior vice president of hotel operations at NCL, emphasized the company’s commitment to reducing single-use plastics onboard, stating that they continuously seek opportunities to implement environmentally friendly practices while prioritizing guest experiences.
He expressed his excitement, “We’re excited to continue to work with Drinique to introduce these new reusable bento boxes across our fleet and continue doing our part to protect and preserve the environment.”
Drinique’s president, Andrew Elliott, also highlighted the company’s goal to support partners like NCL in meeting their environmental objectives. He noted that by using Tritan Renew, Drinique aims to help NCL innovate and reduce single-use plastic waste while maintaining a high-quality dining experience for guests.
The new serveware will debut on the Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva and is expected to be implemented fleetwide by the end of the year.
