Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) announced a $50,000 donation to the Juneau Community Foundation. As stated in a press release, this contribution is intended to support flood recovery efforts in Juneau and to provide direct financial assistance to residents impacted by the natural disaster.
According to the company, the city of Juneau in Alaska has been experiencing severe flooding caused by the release of water from the Mendenhall Glacier, marking the worst disaster in the city’s history. The flooding has resulted in widespread destruction, inundating homes and displacing numerous residents.
NCLH’s donation will contribute to a newly established fund by the Juneau Community Foundation, aimed at offering financial aid for needs not fully covered by FEMA.
Dan Farkas, executive vice president, general counsel, and chief development officer at NCLH, expressed that the company feels deeply connected to the Juneau community, viewing the recent flood’s devastation as heartbreaking. He further said, “Juneau is not just a destination for us; it’s a community we truly care about. ‘Strengthening Our Communities’ is a key pillar of our global Sail & Sustain program, and we feel a profound responsibility to stand by the residents of Juneau in their time of need. Our donation is focused on providing direct financial relief to help families rebuild their lives and facilitate a fast return to normalcy.”
The Juneau Community Foundation will collect applications from affected residents through a simple, one-page form, with plans to review the applications and begin distributing funds by the end of September. Further details on how to donate or apply to the fund are available on the foundation’s website.
Amy Skilbred, executive director of the Juneau Community Foundation, expressed gratitude for NCLH’s donation, noting its crucial role in helping the community recover from the disaster. She emphasized that the fund would enable the foundation to quickly and effectively provide financial support to residents working to rebuild their homes and lives.
