Norwegian Breakaway Cancelled Summer Visits to Tortola

By Cruise Booking Team

It has been announced by the British Virgin Islands Port Authority that five stops in Road Town, Tortola, scheduled between mid-May and late June 2024, will be canceled by Norwegian Cruise Line. These stops were intended to be part of seven-night Caribbean cruises aboard the Norwegian Breakaway.
Due to necessary engine overhauls requiring the ship to sail at a slower speed, the cancellations have been made. Departing from Port Miami, the affected cruises are set to visit various locations in the Eastern Caribbean and the Bahamas.
The original itinerary included stops at Amber Cove and Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, but will now omit Tortola on May 16, May 23, May 30, June 20, and June 27, 2024.

Guests and travel partners have been informed about these changes by Norwegian Cruise Line. The company stated: “Given recent feedback, and to accommodate certain circumstances including but not limited to fuel optimization as part of our commitment to the environment and sustainability efforts, as well as global maritime regulations, we have adjusted the original itinerary”. Although Tortola will no longer be visited, an extended stay at Great Stirrup Cay has been planned by the company, allowing guests additional time to enjoy the private island.
In recognition of the inconvenience caused, a $100 non-refundable onboard credit per stateroom will be received by affected guests.
Currently, the Norwegian Breakaway is operating out of Port Miami, offering four- to ten-night cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. At the end of August, the vessel, which was built in 2013, is scheduled to be repositioned to New York City, where it will begin a new series of itineraries to Bermuda and Canada & New England.
