Princess Cruises, in agreement with Fincantieri, has announced a delay in the delivery of the Sun Princess, as revealed in a recent press release.
This delay has unfortunately necessitated the cancellation of the ship’s maiden 10-day journey, which was initially scheduled to embark from Barcelona on February 8.
John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, expressed regret for this cancellation, “We understand that this news is disappointing, and we share in that disappointment. We recognize the anticipation that surrounded this sailing, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this cancellation causes.”
For guests who had reservations for the inaugural voyage, Princess Cruises has outlined a compensation plan. Affected guests will receive a complete refund of their cruise fare and a reimbursement for any pre-purchased onboard services. Additionally, the company is offering a 50% future cruise credit (FCC), applicable to a subsequent Princess cruise.
Furthermore, guests will be compensated with up to $200 per person to cover any change fees associated with air travel arrangements.
In a move to support its travel partners, Princess Cruises has also confirmed that it will protect travel agent commissions on bookings for this canceled voyage.
