The latest gem in the Princess Cruises fleet, the Sun Princess, embarked on its first journey on Wednesday, Feb. 28. This new vessel, known as the 4,300-passenger Love Boat, began a 10-day Grand Mediterranean cruise, starting and ending in Civitavecchia (Rome), and will transport passengers to a variety of destinations including Naples, Italy; Crete, Greece; Kusadasi, Turkey (gateway to Ephesus); Athens, Greece; Sicily, Italy; Mallorca, Spain; and Barcelona.
Marking a momentous occasion, John Padgett, the president of Princess Cruises, expressed his excitement, “This is an historic day as our new Sun Princess sets sail on her inaugural voyage, and our guests get to experience our sensational, next-level, Love Boat firsthand.” The vessel stands as a testament to modern naval engineering, integrating cutting-edge design, technology, and artisanship, enhancing the overall guest experience onboard.
During its first season, the Sun Princess is set to explore the Mediterranean, focusing on the Greek Isles and Turkey.
Monika Best, a seasoned traveller from Nova Scotia, Canada, who is on her 141st Princess cruise, shared her admiration: “The Sun Princess is absolutely gorgeous and guests are going to love her. The architecture is unbelievable and the amenities on board are next level, especially the glass dome at the front of the ship which is incredibly stunning.”
The cruise line is adapting, with a new focus on accommodating families and multi-generational groups, which reflects the growing trend of family-oriented vacations. “Princess is evolving and looking more toward families and generational cruises, which I think is absolutely wonderful because more and more families are cruising together”, added Best.
