Royal Caribbean’s Update on Icon’s status and Upcoming Cruise

By Cruise Booking Team

Royal Caribbean International gave an update to guests booked on the Icon of the Seas. After canceling a cruise in late September, the 250,800-ton ship is now at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport for some unplanned repairs.

The company explained, “These repairs are underway, and we are confident that they will be completed in time to resume normal itineraries by our Oct. 5, 2024, sailing.”

Royal Caribbean further assured guests, “At this time, our sailing will proceed as planned. As we get closer, we’ll provide you with updates on our progress.”

The Icon of the Seas is set to leave Port Miami for a seven-night trip to the Eastern Caribbean and the Bahamas. The itinerary includes stops at their private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, along with visits to St. Thomas and St. Maarten.

The ship was pulled from service after having propulsion issues during its September 21, 2024, sailing. At the time, Royal Caribbean told guests the ship would need to operate at a slower speed, and quick repairs were necessary.

To allow time for those repairs, they canceled the September 28 cruise and sent the Icon to the Grand Bahama Shipyard as soon as passengers were off the ship in Miami.

Guests affected by the cancellation received a full refund and a Future Cruise Credit for the same amount. Royal Caribbean also refunded any flights booked through them and offered to cover costs for those who arranged their own travel.
