A farewell season is underway today for the Silver Explorer, which will leave Silversea Cruises’ fleet in late 2023. With a 25-night itinerary headed to the South Pacific, the expedition vessel is docked in Chile. One-way cruises from Valparaiso stop at different islands in the region before ending in Tahiti’s Papeete.
Visits by the Explorer to four of Chile’s Pacific Islands include Easter Island, where it will anchor for two days, as well as Robinson Crusoe Island, Alexander Selkirk Island, and Salas y Gomez Island, which are not usually visited by cruise ships.
Before repositioning to Australia’s Kimberley region in May, the Silver Explorer will continue its farewell season in the South Pacific.
Visiting the Buccaneer Archipelago, King George River, Hunter River and Adele Islands for ten nights, the vessel will sail from Darwin and Broome this summer.
There will also be additional South Pacific and Chilean itineraries on the ship before it is withdrawn by Silversea Cruises in mid-November.
Back in 2008, Silversea named the Explorer its first expedition ship when the luxury brand added it to its fleet. Built in 1989, the Explorer became Silversea’s first expedition ship.
Prior to becoming Prince Albert II in 2011, the 6,130-ton vessel introduced new destinations to the company’s fleet.
The ship is equipped with an ice-rated hull with 1A rating, so it can sail safely even in ice-filled polar areas. The ultra-luxury vessel also offers a fleet of kayaks and zodiacs, and sails with a complete team of expedition experts.
Explorer will be operated by Explores One after leaving Silversea’s fleet in December.
Founded by Philippe Videau, one of Ponant’s founders, the new cruise company will operate small expedition vessels.
