Earlier this month, Silversea Cruises hosted a fleet-wide premiere of McCurry: The Pursuit of Color, a documentary about the line’s long-time collaborator and photographer Steve McCurry.
Silversea screened the film throughout June, inspiring guests to cherish the planet and its inhabitants as they sailed aboard its fleet of 11 ships. He visited over 35 countries as part of his collaboration with Silversea Cruises, including India, Mongolia, Madagascar, Bhutan, the Arctic, Uganda’s Virunga Mountains, and more.
Silversea Cruises president and CEO Barbara Muckermann said, “We are honored to work with Steve and to sponsor, co-produce, and screen this insightful film, directed by award-winning director Denis Delestrac.
The goal of Silver Sea Cruises is to promote self-enrichment through immersive travel, encouraging a sense of respect for our planet and our communities. In this regard, Steve McCurry is an ideal ambassador. In the film, we see strong messages about respecting differences, embracing diversity, and embracing differences. The work of this iconic photographer, who has been capturing the world we all share with an authentic beauty for over 50 years, inspires viewers and guests alike.”
The Pursuit of Color provides insight into McCurry’s journeys to war-torn countries, challenging environments, as well as his childhood and New York life.
In addition to showcasing my work and career on Silversea Cruises’ fleet, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Barbara Muckermann, President and CEO. “I hope that viewers see the world in the same way I have over the past five decades and see how photography transcends language barriers and cultural divides, and inspires us to take a moment to reflect on the beauty and complexity of our planet,” McCurry said.
A documentary filmmaker who has won more than 40 international awards, Denis Delestrac directed the film.
In spite of the fact that Steve is the creator of iconic images, throughout modern history, for a large number of people, he is a very low-key person, according to Delestrac. Although he prefers to let his work speak for itself, I wanted to discover what has made his work so timeless and relevant over nearly four decades. The film explores his childhood and life experiences to gain a deeper understanding of his unique vision. Throughout our voyages to the various destinations around the world, I will forever be grateful to Steve for opening up and sharing his life story with me. I also want to thank Silversea for making our journeys possible.
