A Viking Cruises ocean vessel will be named Viking Vela when it is completed at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.
In addition to being slightly larger than its predecessors, the ship is scheduled to debut in 2024.
With a length of ten meters and a width of two meters, the Viking Vela is the eleventh vessel in a series that began with the Viking Star in 2015.
Additionally, the newbuild will carry more passengers: 998 instead of 930.
As well as the deployment of the ship, Viking Cruises has already published it on its website.
When the Viking Vela begins service in 2024, it will offer itineraries to Scandinavia, the British Isles, Iceland, the Norwegian Fjords, and more.
Viking says the new Vela offers all-balcony accommodations and is ideally sized to reach destinations where larger ships cannot dock. On the company’s website, the vessel is also noted for its “understated elegance and modern Scandinavian design.”
As well as a fleet of identical midsized luxury ships, the cruise line also operates the Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, two expedition ships.
Among the company’s ocean vessels in Asia is the Zhao Shang Yi Dun. A joint venture between China Merchants and Viking Sun, the ship serves the Chinese domestic market under its previous
name Viking Sun.
With five additional oceangoing vessels scheduled for delivery by 2027, Viking Cruises continues to expand its fleet.
