Best Things to do in Memphis

Memphis is an excellent destination for relaxation, excitement, or making memories that will last a lifetime. Atop your sightseeing list in South Memphis should be Graceland and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, or explore the renowned Memphis Zoo in Midtown. Check out the rest of our suggestions below.

1. Beale Street

Beale Street is home to blues music, and it's also where travelers go to embrace everything great about Memphis. It's just under 2 miles long with ample eateries, shops for gifts and souvenirs, etc.  Enjoy strolling, eating, drinking, and soaking up the Southern charm of the neighborhood! There is a vibrant nightlife scene at night, with venues such as Rum Boogie Café, BB King's Blues Club, and Mr. Handy's Blues Hall for the adults. On this historic street, you can find something for everyone.

2. Visit Graceland

Graceland is Elvis Presley's 13-acre estate mansion. Since Elvis died, his daughter has owned his property, which has become a shrine for those who loved him with all their hearts for over four decades. He welcomed friends and family members while he lived there for 20 years. As a tribute to the 'King,' the residence now has deep meaning to his numerous fans worldwide. An iPad tour combined with headphones, narrated by actor John Stamos, will take you on an unforgettable journey through time at this historic site. Moreover, there is a kid's tour guide. After the in-depth tour, there are plenty of items to purchase at the various gift shops, including a large selection of Elvis CDs, DVDs, t-shirts, jackets, accessories, and other themed clothing.

3. Shelby Farms Park

The park is sprawling across 4,500 acres and is one of the country's largest urban parks. You can explore 40 miles of trails in this area, making it a great escape from city noise. In addition, fishing is also an option, so this is easily one of the top spots to visit. A recent decision to protect the park from commercial development has opened up the possibility of expansion. This area is already filled with opportunities to ride bicycles, horses, hike, and fish. In addition, there is a clean, repurposed playground with climbing nets, swings, and three separate areas to safely play with turf to prevent falls for children of all ages. The food truck always has tasty food available near the play area.

4. Underground Railroad Museum

Learning and growing is the motto of everyone's life, and we can all stand to do that through a visit to the Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum. While many of us wished it weren't true, the antislavery movement came after years of suffering for millions of people worldwide. This place will help you learn more about what happened and how the country has progressed.

5. Mud Island River Park

It's an excellent activity for the whole family to do while in this lovely city. This small peninsula lies between Wolf River Harbor and the mighty Mississippi, which flows south of it. A dam was built on the Wolf River in 1960, and it now flows into the Mississippi. River Park was created in 1982. The island has a pedestrian bridge connecting it to the Civic Center Plaza. Pedestrians may access the island all year round. It also has a Mississippi River museum and a concert theater. It's an excellent site for everyone - especially during the summer. There's nothing better than cooling off in the river in the summer. There are other enjoyable options, such as boating, walking, and biking. Alternatively, you can buy toy boats at the gift shop nearby if you don't want to rent a pedal boat.

Best Time to Visit in Memphis

Memphis is at its best in April and May and October and November. They provide a brief relief from the summer and winter seasons unbearable (and long). Summer temperatures frequently exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity. Since school vacations are the reason for Memphis' peak tourist season, summer is still the peak tourist period.
