MS Otto Sverdrup is designed for exciting and sustainable expedition cruises along the Norwegian coast.
MS Otto Sverdup (formerly MS Finmarken) is named after Norway's great polar hero. Sverdrup was the first person to cross Greenland on skis, an important participant in polar expeditions, and captain of the legendary Arctic ship Fram. He also captained Hurtigruten between expeditions.
The redesigned MS Otto Sverdrup is an ice-class 1C vessel. She has advanced marine technology and is perfect for expedition cruises in Norway.
During the ship's renovation, natural Scandinavian materials such as granite, oak, birch and wool were used to create a relaxed and stylish atmosphere that enhances the first-class onboard experience.
On board, you can also pamper yourself in our new wellness area with gym, lounge, treatment rooms and sauna. An outdoor pool and hot tub are also available on Deck 7. Observation decks are located behind decks 8 and 5 and 6 to enjoy the magnificent scenery.
Sustainability is at the heart of every detail of Hurtigruten's adventures. Hurtigruten is always pushing the boundaries and striving for 100% emission free. Hurtigruten is the first cruise company in the world to permanently introduce biodiesel as fuel on many ships, including MS Otto Sverdrup.
Biodiesel reduces (CO2) emissions by up to 80% (compared to regular marine diesel). Hurtigruten's environmentally certified biodiesel is made from waste from industries such as fishing and agriculture. This means that no palm oil is used in biofuel production and has no negative impact on rainforests. Hurtigruten plans to use biodiesel in combination with other low-emission fuels.
Like the rest of the Hurtigruten fleet, MS Otto Sverdrup prohibits the use of single-use plastics. She is also equipped with shore power, so emissions are completely avoided when she anchors in ports with shore power systems.
It is not customary to tip Hurtigruten ships on coastal voyages. However, tip boxes are installed in restaurants along with envelopes if it is deemed necessary to reward the crew for excellent service.
