MS Spitsbergen is named after the crown jewels of Arctic Norway, the Spitsbergen archipelago and its largest island, Spitsbergen. Hurtigruten has a long history of touring Svalbard, beginning with the 1896 'Sports Route'. From September she will cruise along the Norwegian coast until May and join our world exploration cruise for the rest of the year.
After a complete rebuild, MS Spitsbergen was added to the Hurtigruten fleet in 2016. The ship is of high technical standard, with comfortable and modern public areas and cabins. Her ship's fresh Scandinavian design reflects a nautical color palette. She is modern, environmentally friendly and plans further refinements to further reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Her maneuverability and optimal size make this new vessel very suitable for exploring polar waters.
